The Sakhalin region is the only region in Russia located on islands.
Большую часть поверхности занимают средневысотные западно-сахалинские горы – Хребетшенко.
Most of the surface is occupied by the mid-altitude Western Sakhalin mountains - Khrebetshenko.
Рейки на Сахалине преимущественно горные, многоводные. Они обычно покрыты льдом с ноября по мае.
The rivers on Sakhalin are predominantly mountainous and high-water. They are usually covered with ice from November to May.
